Having read the impression of Djylietta 09.02.2005, I was very much surprised by aggressive attitude of this person towards the life in this warm & friendly country, may be she had bad experience ,but why to stay so much time in the country that you hate so much?I m Russian and married to a Maltese man,not because I have ever dreamed to get European passport, but because I love him,and he is the best husband and will be a good father to my future children. In Russia I had a good job, nevertheless I left all and now I live here for 6 months. In Malta you can find many beautiful places to see and to visit and if a person can't appreciate the value of many historic places it is his problem but not the problem of this country.Speaking about public transport don't listen to negative opinions.Though my husband has a car, sometimes I use buses, very comfortable, spacious, you shouldn't stay much time on the bus stop to wait for one, once I remember the situation when te bus was 5-10 minutes late, there were may be 10 people at the bus stop, one woman immediately addressed to the representetive of the service, she got many excuses, and 'sorries',in this case I remembered the similar situations in our country, who will ever say sorry to you if the bus is late?Maltese are afraid of being reported ,of course like everywhere in the world there are lasy people, but here you can report about it and a person will be charged or punished. About places to eat out ,I want tosay I liked many, may be because my husband knows where to go,tasty food good service, friendly waiters these are my impressions. The portions are big.Sometimes you order only a starter, and become full.About beaches I want to say here you can find different, only try to search, some of the beaches are very good, others may be less, but you can find to your choice.About hotels I can't say much,as I stayed only in a 5 stay hotel 'Intrcontinental'-excellent service, warm, relaxing atmosphere, that is what I can say. Yes I agree that Malta is not a very cheap country but if you visit some of Russian health resorts, you will say the same.Of course if you've chosen to spend your vacation in Malta be attenive when you choose a tourist agency.I am sorry Djyllietta that my attitude differs from yours, but may be you had negative experience in communicating with maltese man,may be you were not accepted by one,may be you yourself wanted to marry a maltese man in order to get the European passport ,but your plans failed, after having read your letter that was my impression about you,in another case you wouldn't stay so much in the place that you disgust. I am sorry to type in English,I don't have a Russian keyboard in my computer. So if you have decided to come to Malta, you will find here beautiful sea, fresh air, interesting traditions, full of fireworks, friendly people, many bars restraunts, pubs and discos that welcome their clients.Though at the same time be attentive not to drink alcohol outside, you can be charged. By the way Djjylietta I can say that I am happy here, though I m not from a Russian suburb town neither from the Ukraine,as you acclaim that only women from these parts can find happiness here.I was very touched by the letter of this person and I couldnt help writing mine. Bye, good luck Luba

Julietta (i'd rather you had a different nick): Is there anything in this world that you like or accept as 'good enough'? The style of your shallow essay immediately makes us recall the horrible Soviet (?) mentality when people had fun only when they were defaming and smearing their closest neighbours. After you lived there for 4 years, it's just mean, not to add it's an indelible shame for the paper! Sorry about your statement. George George

Julietta, thank you for the interesting article (sorry for writing in English-I only have a latin keyboard).

I went to Malta in last October for 5 days and liked it a lot, but of course, it wasn't enough time. I'm going there again in May for a 2 months summer internship at the Malta Centre for Restoration. I'm also considering applying for a graduate program in the University of Malta. So Malta mainly interests me as a possible place to live for 2 years while studying. Since you have this experience, could you please give me some information about the university and student life in Malta? Did you live in a student residence? What did you study there and what can you say about the quality of education? Any advice/tips/warnings?

You can email me directly at snowleopard_13@hotmail.com Best regards.
